This shop-front fit out was a great opportunity to collaborate with the DEF crew and realize a physical retail space to house their online store.
Together we brainstormed the elements of the DEF brand, brought these concepts into 3D plans then started the work to create their walk-in store.
We stripped back the old space and built in new flooring, adjustable display shelving and counters, seating, wall mounts, fittings and a floating ceiling.
Both a revolving door between the shop counter and the rear office; and a changeable glass floor display unit that customers walked over as they entered the store made it into the plans, giving the layout some character.
With a very small shop footprint, construction had to be tight and flush throughout to reduce space wastage. We achieved this with a balance of elegance and efficiency in the design and construction.
The shop design was minimal, sleek and ‘clean line’, so display products stand out and present like pieces of art.
The boys at DEF loved the design so much that when they eventually outgrew the store, they took the removable fittings with them!
This bathroom fitting was tailor made for our good friends at One Lovely Day, who have a very keen eye for design style.
We were presented with a strong, clear brief for this combo, right down to the timber and stain color. The American Oak was treated to complement the color palette of the space and the pink basin.
The project was a pleasure to complete and the folks at One Lovely Day were super satisfied with the outcome.
This was a fun collaboration!
Ashleigh at The Facialist wanted to create an aesthetic, welcoming reception and display area in their newly renovated spa space at City Works Depot in Auckland.
The counter is the hero piece, designed to capture the eye on arrival, all the while serving its function as reception desk. The rounded edges and treated paintwork give a warm, yet sharp style to the space.
Serious anchoring supports were required to float the heavy eucalyptus shelf lengths on the concrete display wall and the result is an elegant, elemental feel.
When our sister brand Wildernest asked us to create a mobile bathroom design for a private event, we knew we had to come up with something over and above anything we’ve seen on the market.
We have created exactly like that – a range of units that stand out from your average restroom options.
Inside, the en-suites are warm, comfortable, stylish and clean.
Externally, the humble design complements Wildernest’ glamping getaways while also being able to sit in magnificent natural landscapes without disrupting the view.
Here is the solution for your bach, or for that patch of land that requires a bathroom. This unit can stay attached to a trailer or sit on skids or foundations.
This private custom build is the second piece of furniture for our Muriwai clients. They wanted a cabinet to designed to house one of their most precious assets: their favourite vinyl records, turntable and amplifier.
The brief was specific and the key requirements were as follows: it must be made from a native NZ timber; inspired by simple mid-century design with a ‘slice of modern’; and style that would stand the test of time. This piece sits in a thoroughfare between the living room and lounge, which gave us limited parameters on size.
Using native NZ Rimu, we started with the question: ‘What are the strong design aesthetics known to mid-century pieces?’ The leg style delivers the mid-century aspect and the slatted cabinet fronts add the modern twist.
This solid, timeless piece is now the music centre of the house, just as the Outdoor Lounger is the centerpiece of their outdoor area.
We designed, custom built and fitted the counter, kitchen cabinetry, shelves and dining tables for Hare and the Turtle Cafe , New Windsor, Auckland.
This young fresh chef and his partner had a vision to bring New York-inspired sandwiches and good coffee to an area of Auckland that previously had no decent eateries or cafes. They wanted their space, as well as their food, to work well from the very beginning.
While they focused on their menu, they left the design and fit-out in our hands.
The end result = a simple, functional, aesthetically pleasing space and a very happy client.
Our friends at One Lovely Day are renowned for their creative styling plans and this was no exception.
The brief was for a slick, slender and elegant cocktail bar to span the entire length of a glass house. In the end, we finished the 7.2m plywood piece with a high gloss painted piano finish.
The result was very pleasing to the eye and a hit with the wedding guests at exclusive Tara Iti Golf Club.
Stoneleigh Wines asked us to refresh the look of their pop-up container bar with a new exterior for an upcoming event in the Viaduct, Auckland.
Our solution was to create a rustic weathered wood cladding for the front and sides in modular sections. The cladding was fixed to a frame and then securely hung from the top of the container.
The sections can be fitted to and dismantled from the container on site, making for ease of set-up, pack-out and storage, and giving the cladding a longer life span.
We love a good exterior face-lift!
This floating tiny-house style apartment was purposed to enable us to live and work in our warehouse in Helensville.
It was originally an open mezzanine used as a lunchroom, with three shower room cubicles, a vanity and a small kitchenette.
We stripped out all the unnecessary fittings, closed the space in and extended the floor area to create a booth-style seating area that hangs out over the warehouse.
The interior of the apartment feels like a canal-boat type space, with complete kitchen amenities, a shower bathroom and laundry and a fully insulated spacious master bedroom with exterior windows.
Entry is via internal warehouse stairs, which we built up to create under-stair storage. Finally we dropped a floating ceiling to separate the dwelling from the external warehouse roof and create insulation. On the ground level, we built in another WC with a spare bedroom.
This was another project that needed smart design and maximum efficiency on space.
Once the floor plans and construction were sorted, we clad the dwelling with reclaimed native NZ Rimu. This hearty strong wood is everywhere in Aotearoa - it has been the timber of choice for generations. We had a lot of it in our wood stores, salvaged and collected over the years, so we decided on negative slat detailing external design and it looks excellent.
Could you say I’m slightly obsessed with Rimu and negative slat detailing? Probably
Five years on and we are still living in our home-made tiny home. All is well.
The Nrth Est table was created as both a passion project and a labor of love.
We wanted to make a statement piece that was magnificent in its simplicity. Something grand yet still understated. Something classic.
Much love and many hours were poured into this loft-worthy alchemy of heavy steel, laminated native NZ Kauri, Rimu and Matai.
This trestle is one of the first pieces we made for our sister brand Wildernest.
We created ten for a wedding reception long table.
As the Wildernest brand grew, so did the size of the weddings and corporate events so we made another ten, and then another twenty.

Our friend Hamish called us in to take on the kitchen section of his full house renovation. He wanted our focus and design in this part of the house that - once again - needed maximum space efficiency.
His brief was “slick, clean, new with plenty of storage”.
Starting with a clean slate and some supporting architectural plans, we created all of the cabinetry and storage for his kitchen.
A personal project: I created this rack to house my own quiver of boards and accessories.
The drawer is plywood. The rack is a combination of box section steel dressed with foam padding to protect the boards. The whole rack is on lockable caster wheels for easy transport around the warehouse.
The design is clean, simple and functional. Together the boards and rack combine to become a singular art piece.
Creating a shelving solution for this tall, narrow kitchen wall area presented an interesting style challenge.
Inspired by the platforms of a multi-level diving board, with narrower tiers at the bottom to leave bench space open, we landed on this simple, sturdy design.
The beveled spine gives the whole design an extra layer of detail.
We designed and built a pair of these milk carts to brief for a client with a very tight turnaround.
They wanted something specific, the cart design, reusable and modular for easy pack-down.
We delivered these two units in five days.
This modular unit can be set up in an oval or round shape, depending on the space available and style required.
Originally a custom-build for our sister company, Wildernest, it has become a favorite for pop-ups, corporate events and wedding receptions.
For hire or sale.
Our first ever piece was made with love for my bro from recycled native NZ Rimu.
Our friend Ben made a similar piece for his home, giving us the inspiration for the slat bench. The design smacks of George Nelson, the American Modernism style-maker, which inspired Ben’s and our creations’ both.
Custom designs need not be fussy. Simple style is our strong point.
This smart piece was made to a client’s brief and now houses their magazines, books, music amp and TV.
When our sister company Wildernest needs a tailored furniture solution, we simply create the exact requirement.
This one-off has become a useful fixture at pop-ups, corporate events and wedding receptions.
This month long project was a logistical challenge, but if you’re grinding away at a project, it may as well be on magnificent Slipper Island!
The build required two timber platform decks with safari tents erected on top. All furnishings in and around both tents were either provided, or created by us.
To the rear, we installed a solid fixed en-suite unit with hot water and flushing toilet.
We live for jobs like this one!
This family wanted an outdoor lounger and a low table with a personalized inlay… so that’s exactly what we gave them!
Inspired by the rustic wooden pallet look, we built them from a more durable, sustainable timber from the Solomon Islands called Vitex.
The L shape design fits perfectly in their outdoor area and folds down into a day bed. This lounger completes their beautiful Muriwai home and the table inlay adds a personal touch.
